About Andrew

Andrew Fraser has been appearing in the ACT Magistrates and Supreme Courts as well as the Local and District Courts of NSW for more than 15 years and can help you with your criminal-law matter.

A long-time Canberran, Andrew has developed relationships with judicial officers and prosecutors and knows Canberra, and its people, well.

Before beginning legal practice in 2008, Andrew had an extensive career in journalism, including as federal political correspondent, chief of reporting staff and news editor at The Canberra Times, as well as stints with The Sydney Morning Herald and The Sun and a brief time as a political staffer.

Away from court, Andrew is a father of four and grandfather of two. He plays tennis with the Kaleen club and bagpipes with Canberra City Pipes and Drums, including at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

About Sian

Sian Jowitt has returned to the law as a defender after a successful career as a prosecutor. She knows the Courts and criminal practice intimately and will not only quickly assess the overall strength of your case, she can pinpoint the major issues to be addressed or exploited.

Sian is respected by both sides of the bar table and has often been commended for her diligence by many magistrates and judges.

Her career began in the now defunct ACT Magistrates Court transcript section while studying law at ANU. It was here that her love of criminal law started, watching other practitioners appearing in the busy lists in the Magistrates Court.

After a year as an associate to Magistrate Michael Somes, she began her legal career at the ACT Director of Public Prosecution’s office. Over the 10 years she appeared on behalf of the Director, she took on roles as the legal practice manager and the prosecutor in charge of the sexual-assault unit. She regularly appeared as counsel in the Supreme Court.

During her time away from the Courts, she completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors Graduate qualifications and was the Chair of the Domestic Violence Crisis Service.

Sian is now appearing for defendants in the ACT Magistrates and Supreme Courts. Her years of experience as a prosecutor give her a unique insight into the administration of justice here in the ACT.
